Ken passed away in the early evening of September 6, 2022, with some of his favorite people by his side. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Laura Burr. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jeryl, his brother Ray (Barb) his sister Ada and his extended family of in-laws, nieces and nephews and many good friends.
Ken grew up in Charleswood and spent most of his career at Manitoba Hydro where he saw many changes in technology and made many friends.
Ken was lucky to have good, longtime friends and they had many adventures on numerous motorcycle trips, from a “good ole boy” offering the loan of a gun, to very patient bar patrons trying to teach Ron to dance or having to stay in the “honeymoon suite”. On their most recent trip Ken and Ron were pretty proud to get stopped for speeding and convincing the State Trooper to take their picture.
Ken was close with his nieces and nephews and had a special bond with his niece Cailyn. They were kindred spirits, they bonded over music and geeky movies, thrift shop excursions and art auctions. Working on house projects with Cailyn and her brother Will, gave him a great deal of pleasure and allowed him to indulge in his crazy perfectionism.
Ken also loved Ireland, after our first visit there, touring the country by motorcycle we knew at some point we wanted to live there. Visiting Anna and John in Belfast was something we didn’t do often enough, but when we were there we loved it. Ken loved seeing June and Harry and Faye was very pleased when June and Harry enjoyed playing with the physics cards he sent.
During our marriage we had many pet dogs, all very loved and missed. But when he retired Ken thought it was a good time to get a puppy and the cutest little Blue Heeler came into our lives. Ken and Alice were inseparable, learning to herd sheep and goats, doing agility and barn hunts, waiting in the truck while the “old guys” had breakfast, walking kilometers every day in the dog park, or enjoying time at the cottage. If Ken was there, Alice was happy. Like the rest of us, Alice is broken hearted.
Special thanks to Ron Price, Dave Collins, Ray & Barb, Kathy McIlroy, Anna, Will and Cailyn – all of your support and love have made the unbearable a little easier.
