It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Kathy, our dear wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, on August 15, 2021. Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Jack, son John Peterson (Kathy McNamara); daughter Jane Van Massenhoven (John); her 6 grandsons, Sam, Riley, Isaac and Kale Peterson and Blake and Luke Van Massenhoven; nephews Brad Pinkerton (Kelly) and children Hayden and Callie; Gord Taylor (Nicole Jaman); and so many close and wonderful friends. Kathy was predeceased by her parents George and Brenda Pinkerton; her brother John Pinkerton and sister-in-law Carol Taylor.
Kathy was a classy, kind and loyal person who cared deeply for her family and friends and who treated people with respect. Whether she was hosting an event at home, volunteering for a cause, working with clients or spending time with family, friends and neighbours she always put her best self forward to ensure a positive experience for all. Over the years, she and Jack had many adventures including purchasing properties, building homes, cottages and businesses, and enjoying time at Clearwater Bay, Montserrat and Manzanillo. Kathy’s careers included librarian, teacher, office manager, and banking. Through these adventures, she made many long-lasting friendships and left a positive impression on all she met. Her smile and positive attitude would instantly brighten a room. She was especially proud of her family and could always be counted on for gentle guidance when needed. Her grandsons especially brought her great joy and she loved hearing about their latest adventures and could be counted on for homework help at a moment’s notice. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kim and Dr. Ogaranko and all the nurses and staff at the Buhler Cancer Centre at the Victoria General Hospital for her care over the last 20 months. We would also like to thank Dr. Sheila Domke for her years of compassionate care for Kathy. To the entire Palliative Care team at Riverview Health Centre we thank you for your compassion towards Kathy and her family in her final days. Thank-you to the Silver Heights IDA Pharmacy for your kindness and compassion, and to the members of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg for your understanding and fellowship.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of your choice.
