It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Edwards on February 20, 2024, just a few weeks shy of her 97th birthday.
Kathy is survived by her children; Jeanette (John), John (Linda), Michael (Catherine) and Marnie (Malcolm), grandchildren; Steven (Stephanie), Greg, Laura, Austin, Daniel, Luke, Devon (Leelen) and Garret (Natasha), great-grandchildren; Zachary, Elijah, Liam, Alena, Ava, Sofia, Mila and Jax. Kathy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, Clifford in 2008. She was also predeceased by her sister, Margaret Faber and infant son, Paul.
Kathy, the younger daughter of Ernest & Helena Faber, was born in Wembley, England. As a teenager, she was evacuated to Keighley in Yorkshire during WW II, before returning to London to study Nursing at Guy’s Hospital. She was a diligent student and earned the gold medal for finishing top of her Nursing class. In early 1951, a few weeks after graduation, she married Cliff. They both then served as missionaries in West Africa for several years, before immigrating to Canada in 1958 and settling in Winnipeg.
Kathy was a dedicated, loving and attentive mother. Throughout her life, she provided unfailing support to her four children and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a devout Christian, Kathy was an active member initially at Church of the Way and then later at St. Aidan’s Anglican Church.
The family would like to thank the many dedicated Home Care staff, as well as Kim Cable, all of whose compassionate and loving care enabled Kathy to live independently during her final years.
A Celebration of Kathy’s Life will take place later this year at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home. Condolences can be sent through Dignity Memorial. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
Remembered With Love ~ Margaret Faber
With great sadness, the family of Margaret Faber announces her peaceful departure to be with her Lord and Saviour on March 28, 2021.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Jacob Ernest and Helena Faber and her brother-in-law, Clifford Edwards, CM, OM, QC. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Edwards, nieces Jeanette Edwards (John) and Marnie McAdie (Malcolm) and nephews John Edwards (Linda) and Michael Edwards (Catherine). The family will miss Margaret’s quiet and gentle manner and her untiring interest in everyone's activities including those of her six great nephews and niece.
Margaret was born in Bootle (Lancashire), England on May 16, 1924. She completed her Occupational Therapy training in England in 1956 and worked as an Occupational Therapist in London. In 1972, Margaret immigrated to Canada and worked at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre until her retirement. During her working career, she completed her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy degree and for many years assumed leadership roles in her profession. She mentored numerous students and volunteered many hours with the Manitoba Society of Occupational Therapists and the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba.
Margaret was a devoted Christian and a steadfast supporter of missions and humanitarian work. She was a faithful member of Church of the Way while living in Canada. The family would like to thank the congregation at Church of the Way for their prayers and support. Each of their messages was lovingly read to Margaret while she was in hospital. The family would also like to thank the staff of the Victoria General Hospital for their care and support. A special thank you to the hospital volunteer who, on his first day, enabled a FaceTime farewell with Margaret the day before she passed away.
Due to current COVID restrictions, a private burial service will be held. A celebration of life will take place at a later date as Margaret had wished.
In memory of Margaret, the family will be establishing a Margaret Faber Memorial Student Award at the College of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the University of Manitoba, Margaret Faber Memorial Award, 200-137 Innovation Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 6B6 or online at give.umanitoba.ca
