It is with deep sadness our family announces the sudden passing of Katherine Lou on January 2, 2021.
Kathy was predeceased by her husband David and sister Peggie. To cherish her memories, Kathy is survived by her son Patrick; grandchildren Kevin, Samantha, Lindsay and their mother Mary; brother-in-law Hsien-Ping (HP); nephew Lawrence and his daughter Estrella.
Kathy was born in Shanghai, China and later moved to Taiwan, where she and her husband David raised their son Patrick. After David’s passing, Kathy moved to Canada to provide her son more opportunities. She worked for many years and eventually retired from her job as a payroll key punch operator at the St. Boniface Hospital.
Our grandma was a social butterfly and was regularly found chatting on the phone with one of her friends. She always had a story to share and this will be something we will miss greatly. Beginning in 1979, our grandma was a dedicated teacher at the Manitoba Academy of Chinese Studies. She continued teaching for 30 years and was a well-respected laoshi. After retiring from teaching, she maintained her connection with the school through participating in tai chi and yoga.
Our grandma was kind, funny and adventurous and she always had a big appetite. She will be most remembered by her selfless and loving nature. This was evident in the relationships she had; whether it was her own family, friends or someone she just met, she always made you feel at home.
Nini, you will be greatly missed. We love you so much and will cherish all our memories together and the stories you shared.
Our family would like to thank our grandma’s dear friend Paula, who was a helping hand to her over the past number of years. As well, we appreciate the support from our family and friends during this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held January 13, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, please continue to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
