Peacefully on Friday June 20, 2014 at the St Boniface Hospital, June Wilson passed away at the age of 87. She was predeceased by her loving husband Gerry in 2001 and her sister Iris in 2011. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Alanna (Ed), Maureen (Aaron), grandchildren Tiffany, Jared and Christal and great grandchildren Elias, Maya and Kali, as well as sisters in law Dorothy Wilson, Bernice Branigan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born during the Roaring 20’s and raised during the Dirty 30’s and War Years, some of Mom’s favourite activities at that time were swimming at the Sherbrook Pool and skating at the Winnipeg Roller Rink. During these years, Mom met Dad, the love of her life and they married a year after Dad returned from the war. After having her two children during the Baby Boom, Mom returned to the work force in 1962. She had a full and rewarding career at the Canadian Wheat Board for over 25 years and in retirement she enjoyed her monthly lunches with her retired colleagues.
As part of her social life, Mom enjoyed curling with the CBC Sunday Morning Sinners League where she and Dad accumulated more Ass Ender Trophies than the entire league combined. Mom and Dad made great friendships within this eclectic partying group. During the 1970’s Mom enjoyed many vacations with Dad to Great Britain traveling with her sister Iris and brother in law Jack. Holidays throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean were highlights in her later years.
Mom loved her family deeply. She took great interest in her children, grandchildren and greatgrands following their growth and endeavours with pride and joy. Mom was the backbone of our family and will be sadly missed at our numerous family gatherings, especially at our traditional Tim Horton’s Saturday morning coffee and at our dinner tables on Sunday nights.
A memorial service will be held on Friday June 27 at 10:00 AM at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
We would like to thank the staff of 5E at St Boniface for the care and support they provided to Mom and all of us over these last two weeks.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
