Joyce Smyth (nee Bowman), born on August 8, 1931, in Winnipeg MB, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024, at Health Sciences Centre.
She was the beloved daughter of John and Jean Bowman, who instilled in her a deep sense of compassion and dedication to serving others.
Joyce led a remarkable life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering
devotion to her family and community. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Cecil, her parents, and her brother John Bowman. Despite the sorrows she endured, Joyce's spirit remained unbroken, and she continued to inspire all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving daughter Jean, and sons Glen (Cindy) and Bruce (Dallis). Joyce adored her grandchildren Sean, Bryan, Colin, Amanda, Alex, Lorne, Alanna, Lesley, and great-granddaughters Ty-Lynn and Emelia. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Throughout her life, Joyce dedicated herself to helping others through her work and volunteerism. She re-entered the workforce as a dental assistant at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry and later transitioned to teaching dental assisting at Tec Voc High School. Her passion for dentistry and education touched the lives of many students and colleagues. Joyce was actively involved in the dental assistant association and her church, where she found solace and community.
In retirement, Joyce continued her mission of service by volunteering at Immanuel United Church's food bank for 20 years. Her selflessness and generosity were a testament to her unwavering commitment to making the world a better place for all.
Outside of her professional and volunteer endeavors, Joyce found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed attending the theatre, symphony performances, and embarking on day trip bus tours across Manitoba. Her zest for life and adventurous spirit brought light and laughter to those around her.
Joyce was known for her warmth, grace, and impeccable style. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and cherished in her presence. Her kind heart and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on all who crossed her path.
To celebrate Joyce's life, a memorial service will be held on July 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Immanuel United Church on 755 Golspie Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immanuel United Church, the Winnipeg Humane Society, or a charity of one's choice, in honor of Joyce's legacy of compassion and service.
Joyce will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched with her love and kindness. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire generations to come
