It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our grandfather, great grandfather and father-in-law Ted "Poppa" Plouffe on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the age of 91. Leaving behind to honour Poppa’s memory are his grandchildren Jeffrey Kovalik-Plouffe, Julia Kovacs (Ryan), Barbara Richardson and Ken Richardson (Gisele) (Montreal, PQ), great grandchildren Morgan, Tristin, Terrell, Tamia and Tevin (Montreal, PQ), daughter-in-law Judy Kovalik and son-in-law Les Richardson (Montreal, PQ), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Poppa has gone to be reunited with his beloved children Karen Richardson and Gordon Plouffe, wife Isabel, parents Bertha and Bon, as well as brothers Charlie and Dan and his sisters Margaret, Kay and Verda. He is survived by his brother Vic.
Poppa was born on April 5, 1922 in Fort Garry, the neighbourhood where he spent the majority of his life. He grew up playing hockey and had a very successful junior career, which cemented a love of sports he had his entire life. On June 30, 1945 he wed Isabel and they were married for 67 loving years. In 1949, he was transferred by Air Canada to Montreal, where they raised Karen and Gordon. In 1975 he retired and returned to Winnipeg where they again lived in Fort Garry on Dumas Ave.
Poppa was actively involved with the Fort Garry Legion #90 and served on their executive for many years. He loved visiting with his grandchildren, flying to Montreal to be with Karen's family in the early years of his retirement and always spending time with Gordon's family. Poppa was well known for never missing one of their events. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Thompson in the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivary Blvd.
