August 7, 1925 – November 1, 2014
Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Joan Scott passed away on November 1, 2014 at the Victoria General Hospital.
Joan is lovingly remembered by her children Sandra Einarson, Stephanie Lang (David), Kevin Scott (Cathy) and Katherine Suderman (Blake Dilworth), as well as her grandchildren, Sarah Van Toorn (Tyl), Stuart Lang (Bonnie), Andrea Dueck (Stan), Brendon Lang (Connie), Jennifer Scott (Brent Zelenewich), Cristina Wiebe (Dwayne), Nicholas Suderman (Nichole Stoll) and Jacqueline Suderman and 10 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are Blake’s sons, Sean and Eric Dilworth, her sister-in-law Willa Temple, 6 nieces and nephews, their families and many friends. Joan was predeceased by her parents, George and Irene Hardy, an infant sibling and husband David Scott.
Born in Revelstoke, BC, Mom moved 27 times in her life, due first to her father working for CP Railways, then moving with Dad as he completed his education. Mom and Dad were married in 1949 in Montreal and finally settled in Winnipeg in 1966. She was happy to have been primarily a homemaker and mother and extremely proud of the lives and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was also proud of the 27 years she spent volunteering her time at the Victoria Hospital – she spent several years on the executive of the VGH Volunteer Guild and 2 years as its president. Giving her time to help others in need, whether it be family, friends or patients, gave Mom great satisfaction in life. Mom moved to the Lindenwood Terrace in 2007, where she made many new friends and continued to help others whenever she was able.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 10:00 am at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
The family would like to express much appreciation to all of Mom’s care providers over the last year at Deer Lodge, Misericordia and Victoria hospitals. Her doctors, nurses, aides and allied health workers showed us that they went into their professions for the right reasons – thank-you.
In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, where care can continue to be provided with the same dedication as Mom had there for so many years.
