Joan Anne Kumar

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Joan Anne Kumar on Saturday, September 18th, 2021, at the age of 77. She is survived by her loving husband Raymond, children Kenryck (Quiana, Aveena); Rosetta, and Kevin (Colton, Jessie, Faith). Her siblings Nigel (Emily, Christine, Stephanie, Justin); Desiree (Naz, Brian, Tracey and Wendy); Ingrid (Keiron, Kendra-Ann); Horace (Judy, Anthony, Andrea); her deceased parents (Winnifred/Mohamed), brother Stephen (Helen, Samantha, Jason, Devin) and sister Barbara (Tracy). She also leaves to mourn numerous extended family members and friends.

Joan was born in Georgetown, Guyana on January 27th, 1944 and migrated with her immediate family to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1970.

Before retiring, Joan worked at the University of Manitoba (Faculty of Law) in the role as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the Faculty. She was an extremely caring, loving and generous person. She was well known for her cooking (Bakes & Salt fish, Pepe pot). Joan was a kind, loving and generous person who valued her family and friends. She took great joy in the lives of her husband, children, and grand-children.

We will miss her encouraging words, bright smile, her words of wisdom and “life lessons” that she passed on to her children and grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the medical team on the 5B ward of the St. Boniface Hospital for their support, dedication and great care in her last days.

In lieu of flowers you may make a donation in her honour to the Arthritis Society of Manitoba, Canadian Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 27th, 2021 at 2:00pm (CST). As a result of COVID-19 and subsequent gathering restrictions, a limited number of people will be invited to attend the celebration in person and they will be contacted with the details. For all others, the celebration will be live streamed and we hope you can join us in celebrating the life of our dear and beloved mother.
