Elaine’s memory will be forever cherished by her husband of 53 years Dick; sons Chris (Tamie) and Tim; daughter Colleen (Ian); granddaughters Caitlin and Emily; sister-in-law Cathy; and nieces Carmen (Jamie) and Alanna (Jim) and their families.
Elaine was born on September 16, 1943, to Gertrude and Jim Adair. She grew up with her brother Ernie (deceased) in Winnipeg on Ashburn Street and in Woodhaven. She graduated with the inaugural class of Silver Heights Collegiate and received her B.Sc (Home Economics) from the University of Manitoba. She later completed her teaching certificate while raising her family and taught kindergarten for 18 years in the Fort Garry School Division. She greatly enjoyed her teaching career and was beloved by her students.
She was an enthusiastic volunteer with many groups including the Junior League, the Canadian Cancer Society, and Fort Whyte Alive. Elaine particularly enjoyed her lifelong friendships with the Gourmet Club and the Bags. Despite her health challenges, she was an active runner, skier, and dragon boater with the Chemo Savvy crew of Breast Cancer Survivors. She was also a social golfer at the St. Charles Country Club.
She always liked her walks in the warm sun. She loved her 50 summers at Victoria Beach and the memories made with friends and family there. In her retirement years, she enjoyed her winter home Sarasota.
Elaine’s passion for the arts made her longtime supporter of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and was a keen water colour artist.
She will always be remembered as a kind, cheerful person with a quiet demeanor who drew people to her with her warm smile and her carefree spirit.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
