James (Jim) Kennedy passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Grace Hospice on Friday, December 9th, 2016. Jim is predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Thelma (Toni) Bernice Kennedy (Ramsay), his father Robert Lindsay Kennedy, his mother Alice Lawrence Kennedy and his brother Lindsay Kennedy.
Jim’s Father and Mother came to Canada from Ireland and England respectively, settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba where Jim was born. Jim developed a love of hockey at a young age, playing Junior Hockey and later managing and coaching the Winnipeg Monarchs and Winnipeg Reo Flyers with his best friend Art Barnett. Jim began his 38-year career in the Human Resources/Maintenance Department with Trans Canada Airlines in Winnipeg in 1943 and was transferred to Montreal in 1949 where he and Toni raised their three sons, Bob, Rick and Doug. Jim fondly remembered returning to Manitoba to spend the summers at St. Laurent beach on Lake Manitoba with Toni and the boys. Jim retired from Air Canada in 1981 and moved back to Manitoba to spend his retirement with his family.
Jim will be deeply missed by his sons, Bob, Rick and Doug, his daughters-in-law Gail, Holly and Marg and his 10 grandchildren Andrea, Jen, Russ, Meghan, Sarah, Caitlyn, Melissa, Mike, Thomas and Marcus. We will always remember Grandpa/Dad as a kind, gentle soul with a wonderful sense of humour and playful nature – he truly touched us all last.
The Kennedy family would like to thank all of the wonderful Staff at Cancer Care Manitoba, the WRHA, the Grace Hospice and Carol at Sterling House for everything they’ve done for him and our family these past few years. The family will be holding a private internment service in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in James (Jim) Graves Kennedy’s name to:
