Obituary of Irene (Schick) Young
IN THE CARE OF

Thomson In The Park Funeral Home and Cemetery

Remembered With Love

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Irene Young announce her passing on Friday, January 27, 2023 at the age of 91.

Irene is survived by daughter Betty Chutskoff; sons Ron (Georgina) and Murray (Shannon); grandchildren Shannon (Dave), Shawn (Rhonda), Melony (Francis), Melissa (Mike) and Liam; and great-grandchildren Brenna, Brylee, Bria, Tyler, Justin, Hannah, Steven, Alex, Owen, and Julia. She also leaves to mourn brother-in-law Fred (Nancy) Young; sisters-in-law Adeline Pankratz and Muriel Young; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene was predeceased by her husband Leonard, parents Henry and Anna (Lang) Schick, brothers Ernie and Johnnie, and son-in-law Dale Chutskoff.

Irene was born in 1931 and grew up on the farm near Melville, Saskatchewan. She met Len Young in 1946, and they were married the following year. Throughout their 60 years together, they enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling and spending time with family. There are many fond memories from time spent at Crooked Lake near Melville.

Irene and Leonard moved to Winnipeg in 1989 to be closer to their children. In retirement, they enjoyed travelling to Hawaii, parts of Europe, and several places throughout Mexico, the Caribbean and the United States.

Irene also enjoyed cruise vacations with her family to Alaska, the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal. At home, one of her favorite pastimes was watching sports on TV, especially curling and cheering on the Bombers and Jets.

The family would like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre for their care and compassion during her final months.

Cremation has taken place and interment will follow at a later date.

Rest in Peace Mom, Grandma, and GG. We miss you and will forever cherish your memory.
