Ingeborg Becker died peacefully in her home on February 8th, 2017 at the age of 90. She was born in Drochtersen, Germany on July 14th, 1926.
Ingeborg will be missed and is remembered by her three children - Dorothy, Ronald (Cathy), and Christine (David) and her three grandchildren - Joy, Bradley, and Alexandra. She is also survived by her sister Christiane, brother Jurgen (Karin) as well as nieces and nephews in Germany.
She is predeceased by her husband Klaus, whom she missed dearly after his passing in 2009, and also by her sister Gabrielle in Germany.
Ingeborg came to Canada from Germany in 1958 to work for two years. She then met Klaus and they married and settled in Winnipeg. After having her three children, she started working at St Peter’s Lutheran Church and worked there for over fifteen years as the parish secretary.
She was very active in the church and volunteered on many different committees. Her work included directing the children’s choir, teaching Confirmation classes, assisting with the preparation of the annual report, and serving on the Ladies’ Aid committee. Her strong faith and the work she carried out through the church were very important to her and she was deeply committed to this path.
Ingeborg cared deeply about the children she worked with at Knox Day Nursery where she volunteered for close to twenty years.
Ingeborg enjoyed her crafts, including embroidering, knitting, baking, and making cards, and she generously shared these with others. She also enjoyed nature, especially blueberry picking and being out at Grand Beach with Klaus. She loved gardening and many meals were enjoyed with the annual harvest of the garden. Her jams were highly anticipated and enjoyed by all. She also enjoyed growing plants indoors during those long and cold winter months.
A memorial service will take place on Monday, February 20th, 2017 at St Peter’s Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut Street, at 1:00 pm.
The family would like to thank the many home care workers who assisted Ingeborg over the last few years and allowed her to remain living independently in her apartment.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Peter’s Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut Street, Winnipeg MB R3G 1N9 or to a charity of your choice.
