Mrs. Helen Hiebert Wall

She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday Sept. 3 2016 at Oakview Place.

She remained in her beloved house til Nov. 2015 at which time a fall made it impossible for her to return home.

She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1984. She was also predeceased by her parents John P and Anna Hiebert, three brothers, Ernie, John and Abe and her two sisters Annie Klassen and Sadie Brown and numerous in laws.

She is survived by her children Glenn (Wendy) Wall and Wendy Wallis; grandchildren Amber (Mike) Hayward, Jayson (Shawna) Wall, Adam Wallis, and Jessica Wallis (Colin Toews); Great-grandchildren Raine and Ainsley Hayward and Daxton Wall. She is also survived by one brother Stanely Hiebert, and sisters-in-law Gert Hiebert, Ann Hiebert and Helen Hiebert and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom was born January 26, 1919 on the Hiebert homestead near Altona Mb. She spent the first 30 some years working hard on the farm, over -coming many ordeals and hardships, including the dirty 30’s. In her early 30’s she moved to Winnipeg to work as a housekeeper, then worked at the Nutty Club Factory. She eventually met dad at a local dance. They married in 1954. When us children came along she became a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom as was the norm in those days.

She joined the Silver Heights Bowling League in the early 60’s and bowled for over 40 years, winning many trophies and awards of which she was so very proud of . Mom was also known for her handy work and made thousands of crazy quilts, baby quilts, mitts and afghans. There are many a baby that have been wrapped in one of her quilts and we’re pretty sure at least half of the kids in Manitoba have worn a pair of her mitts over the years, as she donated them to hospitals, daycares and kids passing by on the street. She also sold her wares at craft sales all over Manitoba.

Her greatest joys in life were here family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for which she was always available to babysit. Her house and her garden, playing baseball and watching the Blue Jays play, and of course, vacations at Clear Lake which she looked forward to every year for over 40 years.

We want to thank her friends Sandy Hoffman and Alice Ozol for all the extra help and support you gave, also thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospital and Oakview Place for their care over the last 9 months.

A come and go celebration of Helen’s life will take place on Monday, September 12, 2016 from 2:00 pm -4:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.

In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the St. Amant Centre or a charity of your choice.
