Helen Doreen Thomson passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on November 16, 2023, at the age of 96. She is survived by her two daughters Beverlee (Chris) Kellerman of Vernon, BC, and Barbara (Tom) Kleysen of Winnipeg, MB, her two grandchildren Stephen and Shannon Kleysen, and her sister Margaret Seifert. Helen was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Jack Thomson.
Helen Biggar was born in Kaleida, Manitoba on February 27, 1927. Helen moved into Winnipeg after living in Manitou and began working in administration for the Manitoba Telephone System. Jack and Helen were married in 1958, moved to North Kildonan and raised their two wonderful daughters. Both Helen and Jack were active members of the Rossmere Country Club, where they spent many hours as a family golfing and curling over the years. Helen left Manitoba Telephone System when she was pregnant with her daughters, and eventually joined Jack working in the family’s business, Dr. White’s Medicine Company. They continued to own and operate Dr. White’s Medicine Company until it was sold, and they retired a few years later.
After retirement, Helen and Jack spent their winters in San Antonio, Texas in their motorhome, golfing and enjoying time with friends. Helen and Jack were the biggest supporters of their grandchildren, showing up to countless gymnastics, hockey, and soccer events, always with a special post-game chocolate bar.
Helen’s later years were spent at Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence with her sister Margaret. Helen and Marg were known as the sisters and felt fortunate they were able to spend their last years together. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff in the Boulevard Wing for their excellent care and support over the last 8 years.
Helen was a wonderful mother, sister, wife, and grandmother, and will be truly missed by those who loved her. A private family service and internment will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation in tribute of Helen Thomson.
