George was born on September 28, 1918 in Winnipeg, son of Nellie and John McMurray. He passed away peacefully aged 96 on April 9th, 2015 at Deer Lodge in Winnipeg. Deeply loved father, father-in-law and Grandpa George to daughter, Hilarie, her partner Jack Litwinowich (Steveston, BC), son Bill, daughter-in-law Mary (Ottawa), grandson Scott (Redmond, Washington) and granddaughter Elspeth (Montreal). Dear brother of Raymond and Mel (Sherry) of Winnipeg. Predeceased by his beloved sister Ivy and brothers Sydney, Douglas and Jack. George will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren.
George began to travel soon after high school graduation moving to London England at age 19. He served in the RCAF from 1941 to 1946. For over 30 years he worked for Air Canada in Montreal and Toronto, retiring as Regional Employment Manager. George returned to Winnipeg in 1987 happy to be back in the company of his sister, brothers and their families. He was a long time resident of Kiwanis Chateau enjoying the friendship of many and leading an active life, traveling, curling and golfing into his 90s. With the support of WRHA home care, dedicated nieces, nephews and good friends, George lived independently to age 95.
The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Health Sciences Centre, GD4 and GG7, and Deer Lodge T3. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 18th, 2015 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, Winnipeg.
A world traveller, the United Kingdom remained George's favourite destination and he asked that his ashes be scattered in Devon, England.
