Gary was predeceased by his son Kelly; parents Ted and Hazel; in-laws Steven and Margaret Plouffe; and nephew Tim.
Gary leaves behind his wife of 57 years Dorothy (Plouffe); children Anne (Marcel), Karen (Bruce), Randy and Steve; his grandchildren Mike (Amy), Chad, Tyler (Melissa), Ashley, Bre-Anne (Dave), Kelly (Nicole), Ryan, Teri-Lyne (Ashley), Chelsea (Matt) and Angela (Luke); great-grandchildren Kennedy, Presley, Nevada, Maddon, Braxton and baby Wrixon due in November; brothers Doug (Marilyn), Fred (Lois) and nephews; as well as his dog Dusty.
Gary was born on July 4, 1938. He grew up in Oak Bluff on the original homestead where he was born and raised and also raised his family. He farmed from the time he was a small boy and hauled water and pushed snow. He later started Erb Trucking, where he had 15 trucks and built a big shop. He took great pride in his shop. Dad was a hard worker all his life.
Gary played a big part in building the Oak Bluff Rec. Centre and was the ice man for a few years. He sharpened skates for people and did all his grandkids skates. Dad was a great help with getting his grandsons to hockey games and practices. He loved to share a laugh or joke with his grandkids and bug his granddaughters. The kids always liked to have a bite of papa’s supper loaded with ketchup or pickle juice.
Bringing dad home was made possible with the quick assistance of Nicole (homecare) and Emily (nurse). We cannot thank them enough. The love and around the clock care from our kids and grandkids in the hospital and at home made papa’s passing peaceful. We love you all dearly! His faithful companion Dusty will be lost without him.
As per Gary’s wishes, there will be no formal service.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Burn Fund or Children’s Wish Foundation.
