Erna was born in Woodley, Sask, the oldest of six siblings. She was raised on the family farm and went to Hill Hall School in Woodley. Erna married Frank Resler in 1949. Frank and Erna lived in various small towns in southern Saskatchewan until settling in Lampman raising five children.
Frank died accidentally in May 1966. Erna married Alvin Trapp in October 1967 and moved to Winnipeg. Erna and Al welcomed a son Darren in 1969. The family settled in the suburb of North Kildonan where they resided for many years.
Erna and Al were faithful members of Grace Lutheran Church where they made many lifelong friends and countless memories. Faith was a big part of Erna’s life. She enjoyed singing all her favorite hymns, bible reading and being involved in numerous church activities.
Erna and Al also loved to travel back to Sask and Alberta to visit family and friends and many other places. They traveled to Europe too celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary where they toured a few countries and spent time with friends in Germany which they thoroughly enjoyed. They enjoyed visiting Sharon and Kurt’s cottage and other friend’s cottages and even though she didn’t like the water, she occasionally dipped her toes in.
Erna was a devoted wife and stay at home mom enjoying cooking, baking and in the the summer months the beautiful yard and garden. Family meals were the most important to her. As the family grew, Christmas, birthdays, and all special occasions were very significant to her. She really loved playing games and cards and was very competitive. She hated to lose and wow did we know that, especially the na, na, na goodbye part, an inside family joke. Erna really did have a good sense of humor.
Erna was predeceased by her loving parents , husbands Frank Resler and Alvin Trapp, daughter Carol, sister Ruth (Bob), brothers Ernest and Dennis, numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Erna is survived by children Melvin (Caroline) Resler, Dale (Marianne) Trapp, Jerry (Susan) Trapp, Sharon (Kurt) Mann, Darren (Laura) Trapp, son in law Robert Smith.
Grandchildren Curtis, Christine (Don), Ryan (Tracy), Jonathon, Kevin (Catherine), Derek, Kelsey (Nick) and Hayley (Owen).
Great grandchildren Kyden, Koltyn, Kaylynn, Camryn, Mackenzie, Alayna, Eva, Everley and Banks.
Brothers Ed (Louise), Walter (Bev), sister in laws Josie and Joy.
Numerous other in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank River East Nursing Home for all their caring and kindness for the last 5 years.
