Elsie grew up on a farm in Belleview, Manitoba and worked on a farm in her teenage years where she met the love of her life, Les and married in 1940. Les served in World War II and upon his return they farmed with Les' father in Saskatchewan for a year and then moved onto Elkhorn, Manitoba where they farmed for 26 years. She was an excellent cook, quilter, craftswoman, canner, seamstress, and gardener, meanwhile raising their four children. In 1973, they moved to Virden where she was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, loved fishing with the family and friends, and ceramics became a passion. After Les retired they moved to Winnipeg where she loved those family times, playing cards and having coffee with her Zellers friends, going to events at The Royal Canadian Legion, Henderson Highway Branch No. 215. In 2011, after Les passed away, Elsie moved from the house to Concordia Village where she met a wonderful group of friends - both residents and staff alike. We will certainly miss all those sayings, i.e. Big Deal, her feisty way, care packages of homemade buns and cookies, weekly trips to Walmart, playing bingo and card games with friends at Concordia Village, and crafty items.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the Health Sciences Centre (Gold Team and Palliative Care Team and support staff), along with Breast Health Centre and Dr. B. D. Wiesenthal for their compassionate care.
A celebration of Elsie's life will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 11:00 am at Concordia Village, 1125 Molson Street, Winnipeg. Visitor or Staff Parking available.
In Elsie’s memory, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice.
