It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Egidio Siciliano on September 8, 2014 at the age of 82.
Egidio is survived by his wife Frances, daughter Linda Mauthe (Bob), son Mario (Janay), grandchildren Andrew, Melissa, and Olivia, brother Orlando (Giovanna), sister Amelia Romeo, and many nieces and nephews. Egidio was predeceased by his parents Mariano and Teodolinda Siciliano and his sister Raffaella Capozzi.
Egidio was born in Marano Principato, Cosenza, Italy on August 22, 1932. He immigrated to Winnipeg in 1957 where he met and married the love of his life Frances Falvo. They had a long and happy life together. When circumstances forced Frances from the family home, Egidio remained a devoted caregiver for many years, visiting Frances daily, with the undying love he had for her.
Egidio loved to garden and all of his family enjoyed the fruits of his labour. Dad also took care of the birds that visited his garden. He built a multi-story birdhouse for them, taking special precautions to protect it from the squirrels. He spent many hours enjoying the comings and goings of the birds.
Egidio was a master cabinet maker and built many beautiful pieces for his own home as well as for his children’s homes. He spent many enjoyable years at Andy’s Millwork completing many projects that are now located throughout the city of Winnipeg.
Egidio played a huge role in the lives of his grandchildren and always had time for them. He never missed a concert, birthday party, or special event. He handcrafted many of their favourite toys with the same passion and attention to detail that he used in his working life as a cabinet maker.
Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Parish Church, 510 River Avenue, on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 11:00 am with Fr. Renato Pasinato as the Celebrant. Viewing and condolences will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street.
