It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Edwin Ross MacDonald. Ross was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 61 years, Natalie Joyce MacDonald (nee Bate). Ross leaves behind his son Edwin MacDonald and wife Eileen; grandsons John and Michael living in Minneapolis; his son Guy MacDonald living in British Columbia, and his daughter Elizabeth Kristjansson and husband Gestur, and their two sons Hunter and Bryce.
Ross was predeceased by his parents John Edwin MacDonald and Margaret Lovette Ross MacDonald.
Ross was born on Ash Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 27th, 1927. Ross started his schooling at Queenston School in River Heights and continued on to St John’s Ravenscourt where he met many of his lifelong friends. Ross cherished and loved to share his memories of Saturday night movies with his parents, late night billiards at his home on Ash Street and working side by side with his father in both manufacturing and the island camp at Lake of the Woods.
Ross graduated with a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Manitoba including a multi- sport Award for Athletic Excellence in 1948; probably the foundation for his enviable fitness and vigor throughout his 95 years. Upon finishing University, Ross went to work for Ontario Hydro then returned to Winnipeg in 1949 to work with his father at MacDonald Brothers Sheet Metal and Fabrication, where he continued in the family business until 1986.
Ross was a supportive and active member of Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, active member of the Masons of Manitoba, Board Member of Canadian National Institute for the Blind, while taking part in many other fundraising initiatives. Ross was always very community minded and gave generously of his time to many charities. Ross believed that everyone needed to do their part and leaves a legacy that values community support and caring for others.
Ross loved his walks in Assiniboine Park, playing the piano, connecting with family and friends, but mostly cherished the time he got to spend with his beloved wife Natalie. Indeed, she has called him back and we are certain that the best is yet to come.
Ross came into the world at home quarantined due to a bout of Scarlett Fever and ironically left in similar circumstances from COVID 19. In accordance with Dad’s wishes, Internment has taken place.
