It is with sadness that the family of Edward Huebert, of Winnipeg, announces his passing on November 30, 2011 after a lengthy illness at Concordia Hospital, at the age of 81 years, his wife Sophie at his side. He was born in North Kildonan on November 23, 1930. Edward will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Sophie, son Robert Neil (Shabnam), daughter Sandra Lynne Harris, grandsons Ben, Ethan and Kishan, granddaughters Shannon and Shey, brothers Jake (Gloria) and Arthur (Kay), sister Irene (Ivan), and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Cornelius, and his brother Harry and his sister Betty.
Until illness forced him off the road, Big Ed was a trucker who first hauled lumber, then fiberboard for his father’s company and then for Bestway and finally Kingsway. When not driving across the country he delighted in the time he spent at the family cottage at West Hawk Lake. He enjoyed swimming and waterskiing and passed on his love of the water to his family. As a youth he enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, swimming in the Red River and numerous other sports. A devoted sports fan, he liked to watch his favorite Bombers, Jets and Blue Jays play and sometimes win.
Ed was a fighter who worked very hard to provide for his family. Even when illness struck him, he constantly surprised his doctors and nurses with his ability to fight on regardless of the odds.
Ed’s family wishes to extend its sincere and heartfelt thanks to his many caregivers over the years, including the staff at Concordia Hospital, and would especially like to thank Dr. Shawn Thomas for his compassionate care and concern.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00pm Monday, December 5 at Klassen Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations may be made in Ed’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Society.
