

She was born on December 25th, 1924 in the Rural Municipality of North Norfolk, Manitoba. Later her family moved to the nearby town of MacGregor, Manitoba, where she attended and completed her schooling. She then trained and worked as a Psychiatric Nurse at the “Manitoba Home” in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
Upon leaving there, she joined the Women’s Navy (Wrens). She trained at Guelph, Ontario and served in Cornwallis and Halifax, Nova Scotia and then finally settled in Winnipeg. Upon discharge, she took a commercial course at Success Business College in Winnipeg, and worked in that field thereafter.
She married Berton DuGuay in 1948. They raised and educated two sons, Roger and Larry. Later together they built and operated a successful dental business as technician and secretary until Bert’s untimely passing in 1987.
Growing up, Mom was active in many sports, but in later years bowling became her passion. She also volunteered and worked at the bowling alley with a group of special needs children.
She leaves to mourn her passing Roger and Penny of Winnipeg, Larry and Sue of Whitehorse, granddaughter Melissa, grandson Carlton and wife Carly, great granddaughters Ally and Jayna, all of Winnipeg, sister Edna Kane of MacGregor and sister in law Edythe Floate of Kindersley, Saskatchewan as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her brother Norman in 2002.
As requested by Mom, cremation will take place and a funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 27 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Friends and acquaintances are invited to join the family for the service as well as for tea afterwards.
