It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Doreen at the age of 91, on March 14, 2020 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. She is now free from the bonds of dementia and stroke.
She was a loving mother to her children, Linda Scott and Larry Young; proud grandmother to Todd (Susan) Suggitt, Erin Scott, and Trevor (Kelsey) Young; and adoring great-grandma to Tyson & Sam Eilers-Suggitt. She will be remembered by her sisters Edna, Joyce, & Marlyn.
She was predeceased by her husband Allen (2017) and son-in-law Barrie (2012).
Mom graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Winnipeg General Hospital class of 1951A. She always had a special bond with her classmates. Mom devoted her nursing career to the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She worked for many years at the Women’s Pavilion and the Winnipeg Clinic.
Mom enjoyed travelling with her sisters and with Dad. Maui was her favorite place. Mom and Dad moved to St. Vital in 1954 and made many friends and memories curling at the St. Vital Curling Club and golfing at the Canoe Club and Southwood Golf and Country Club.
Mom did not want a funeral; there will be a private family interment and a gathering of friends and family at a later date.
The family is grateful for the care and compassion shown by staff to Mom over the past few months at both 4North at Victoria General Hospital and the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg.
Flowers are graciously and gratefully declined. Donations may be made to Victoria General Hospital or the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, or to a charity of your choice.
