On October 25, 2017, Charlotte passed away peacefully with family by her side at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 66 years old. Charlotte leaves to mourn, her loving children Garth Funk (Robyn Robertson), Susan (Scott) Phimister, grand-daughter Alexa Phimister, mother Margaret Lommer, sisters Lynne (Robert) Kardash, Marian (Earl) Golding, brothers James Lommer, Tom Lommer, Mark Lommer (Audrey), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Charlotte is predeceased by her husband Larry Funk, father Philip Lommer, brother-in-law Dennis Funk, and sister-in-law Gayle Funk.
Charlotte was born on April 22, 1951 in Hafford, Saskatchewan. As a young girl she was a good student, a strong athlete, and a hard-working farm girl. She had an aptitude for math, which she followed through by studying accounting/book-keeping and eventually finishing her career life at CIBC where she retired. After meeting Larry while he was working for CIBC in Hafford, she became a wife and mother who baked many a delicious apple or mud pie, snickerdoodle, and angel-food cake. Mom was always supportive no matter what endeavour we wanted to embark on. From girl-guide leader to cheer mom to driveway hockey rink maker; which she undoubtedly knew would result in an unusable slippery mess. She sewed us whatever clothes or Halloween costume our little hearts desired, no matter how many late nights it took.
One of our fondest memories of mom is spending summers at the cabin in Kipabiskau, swimming, riding bikes, playing games, eating ice cream, and reading. We vividly recall her reading Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little to us before bed.
Mom was a people person who loved her CIBC customers and coworkers, and thrived when surrounded by people. She was always genuine in her interactions with people and truly a great listener and conversationalist. Later in life mom enjoyed puttering in the garden and flowerbeds, playing board and card games with family, cross-stitching, and Solitaire.
We would like to thank the staff on the third floor at Grace Hospital, in particular nurses Andrea and Karen, and Dr. Bovell for their care and compassion when mom needed it the most.
A funeral service was held at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg on Friday, November 3rd at 11:00am.
