12/01/1985 – 05/30/2023
Chad Patey died May 30, 2023, after a long illness.
Chad was born and raised in Winnipeg. He grew up in River Heights and attended Kelvin High School. More recently he studied Supply Chain Management and Logistics, achieving an honours diploma from Herzing College.
As a boy he spent many hours with his grandparents, Ruth and Dick Dahl, at their home in Charleswood, including Sunday night dinners with the whole family. He enjoyed many hours with friends at Sir John Franklin community centre furthering his natural hockey talent. Chad made lifelong friends in his childhood and teenage years, including Kelly Klem, Evan Speirs and Paul Davis. Chad loved hockey. After he hung up his own skates, he cheered enthusiastically for the Jets once they returned.
The family cottage on Lake Manitoba was a constant in Chad’s life, and the place he loved spending time with his parents Naomi and Larry Patey, brother Brad, brother Monte (Debbie and Ryan), cousins Charwin and Ashley, aunt and uncle Marc Dahl and Susan Loader. Fishing, campfires on the beach and wakeboarding with Kelly, filled his summers as a teen. His favourite photos of himself were all taken at the lake, most of them with a buddy, a boat and a large fish, often a walleye.
Chad maintained lifelong connections with his extended family, travelling to Australia to spend time with older brother Monty and speaking frequently on the phone with his aunts and uncles in Newfoundland. In more recent years he fondly spoke of his role as Uncle Chad to Brad and Charwin’s children.
Chad left the world quietly, surrounded by the love of his mom Naomi, friends Evan and Paul, his brother Brad, and his beloved fiancé Serena Salfert. He is survived by them, by his brother Larry, and by family and friends in Newfoundland, Australia, British Columbia and Manitoba.
Naomi and Brad would like to thank their cousin Mary Wilson and other friends and family who were there for them and for Chad through this difficult time. You know who you are.
