1942 - 2011
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn Edith Ransby (nee Logan) on March 19, 2011 at Riverview Health Centre, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
She is survived by Edward (Ted) her husband of almost 45 years, a daughter Karen Sangster (Michael) of Ottawa and a son Ross (Carrie) of Winnipeg, and four wonderful granddaughters, Meghan and Emma Sangster and Jessica and Shirley Sue Ransby. Carolyn is also survived by a sister Susan Tooley (Jock) and a brother Nick Logan (Christine Skene), brothers-in-law Ken Ransby and Ned Brown (Pam) and sisters-in-law Lynne Ransby (Gerry Hodson) and Nancy Bell (Rob), as well as a being a great Auntie to her numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Eileen Logan and an infant sister Mary Shannon.
Carolyn lived in Winnipeg all her life, graduating from Gordon Bell High School and attending the University of Manitoba. She worked as an Executive Secretary at Prudential Insurance of America, leaving in 1970 to start a family. In 1981, she resumed her professional career as a Division Director with the United Way, and eventually joined the Children's Hospital Research Foundation. In 1994 she became Executive Director of the PC Manitoba Fund, formally retiring in 2001. It has been said that the best way to get something done is to give it to someone busy. And that was certainly the case with Carolyn! In addition to her professional activities and managing the family household, she was always an extremely active volunteer beginning at a young age and continuing up to her recent illness. She served at a senior level on numerous boards, organizations and committees - the Humpty Dumpty Club, St. Luke's Church, the Junior League of Winnipeg, the Assiniboine Park Rangers, the Rehabilitation Centre for Children, many political campaigns, the Art Gallery, the Black and White Ball, Manitoba Canada Day Committee (Chair), and several Prostate Cancer Dinners (Co-Chair). Quite apart from all these organizations, she thoroughly enjoyed her association with three groups, The Book Club, The Walking Girls and the Mahjong Club. Carolyn also loved spending time with all her family, her annual holiday in Maui, summers at Lake of the Woods and the many trips she took with Ted.
Carolyn was a remarkable woman and a constant source of wisdom and energy, yet she maintained her grace under challenging circumstances. She was indeed loved and respected by all who came into contact with her.
We would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at CancerCare Manitoba, St. Boniface Hospital, the Palliative Care Program and Riverview Health Centre, especially, Drs. Lotocki, Popowich and Dean, Michelle, Deb, Anne and Louise.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at The Parish Church of St. Luke, Stradbrook and Nassau St. N.
In lieu of flowers, friends may consider donations to CancerCare Manitoba, The Winnipeg Humane Society, St. Luke's Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
