Bruce was born in Winnipeg on February 3, 1935 to Ernest and Minnie Manness. He was raised on the family farm, moving to the town of Sanford in his teens where he completed his schooling. He worked for a short time for United Grain Growers, then pursued certification as a Journeyman Electrician. Bruce went to work for Manitoba Hydro in 1960 at the Great Falls Generating Station, moving his young family around Manitoba as he took on positions of increasing responsibility. Bruce retired in 1993 as Supervisor with the Electrical Inspection and Metering Section, Regional Services Department, based in Winnipeg. Following retirement, he worked as an independent electrician, which kept him busy while leaving lots of time for family and golf.
Bruce loved being outdoors and enjoyed gardening, yard work, camping, golfing, curling, baseball and travelling. Above all else, he loved people. He was a very social, outgoing person who loved a good party and gathering family and friends at his home. His grandchildren were a special source of joy to him. Following a serious stroke in the fall of 2000, Bruce became a well-known presence and personality at Riverview Health Centre where he resided until his passing.
Bruce is predeceased by his beloved wife Rose-Aimee, and his brother Cecil. He leaves with great memories and love, his children Lori-Jean (Tony), Ron, Michelle (Doug); step-son Todd (Brenda); grandchildren Morgan, Keenan, Shea, Ashley, Matthew; brother Trevor, sister Donna (Ron); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13 at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery, #1 Highway East at Navin Road.
