With great sadness we announce Alex’s passing after she bravely fought cancer the past 2 years.
Alex was predeceased by her maternal and paternal grandparents; Charles Townsley (1990); Dorothy Harder (2009); Christopher Garry (2010); Marietta Garry (2018) and her Auntie Sharon Sheldon (2014).
She leaves to mourn her husband Tyler (TJ) Gardiner, parents Carol and Andy Garry, sister Laura Garry (Jay), nephew Zachary Rempel, dear friends Heather, Heidi, Lindsay, Sandra and puppy Winnie.
Born in Winnipeg Alex attended General Vanier elementary and Windsor Park Collegiate, graduating in 2001. She enjoyed taking part in her high school musical theatre productions where her love of singing and musicals collided. Alex attended University of Winnipeg until her selfless nature and passion for helping guided her to pursue a career in nursing, graduating from the RRC/U of M program in 2010. She worked at a variety of sites through her career; Concordia Hospital, Mount Carmel Clinic, Autumnwood Medical Center, Grace Hospital, Misericordia Health Center and Access River East.
Alex had a special place in her heart for all creatures; she fed the birds and squirrels in her yard. Above all Alex was a dog lover, especially her precious Holly. Holly was Alex’s shadow, they went everywhere together. Holly had a doggie car seat in Alex’s car, a life jacket for the boat and an outfit for every occasion. Holly was registered as a therapy dog and together they would volunteer connecting with people in long-term care facilities and hospitals.
Sept 1, 2012 Alex met Tyler while vacationing in Kenora. Together they have been chasing adventure ever since. Hot holidays to Cuba, Mexico… in winter, boating and wakeboarding on the lakes of Manitoba and Ontario in summer. Their most grand adventure was a European vacation. Alex was overjoyed when Tyler proposed to her in Paris. They were married Sept 14th, 2019.
Alex will be remembered for her vivacious energy, love of music, dancing and being ready to celebrate any occasion. She was a steadfast friend, always there with a listening ear and solid advice. In her sickness, she found great comfort in cozying up with Holly to watch Hallmark Christmas movies and was a ravenous reader of mystery novels.
Alex’s family would like to thank the Breast Health Centre, Cancer Care, Drs Iskander, Rivard, Hayakawa, Niraula, Beshara and their teams, Stephanie Howard, Cheryl Dizon-Reynante, Melanie Baruch and Lori Santoro for their support.
A Celebration of Alex’s life will take place At 2:00pm on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Winnipeg, MB R3T 5Y4.
In lieu of flowers, family ask that donations be made in Alex’s memory to Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation or Winnipeg Humane Society.
