Alex was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Jean on August 21 of this year.
Alex was predeceased by his father Alex Sr.(Evdokim) and mother Nellie (Anastasia Makaeff); twin brother George Strukoff; brother Fred and wife Tannis Strukoff, and their sons David in infancy and Robert.
Dad was born in Pelly, Saskatchewan on August 20,1932. He left the farm to work in Winnipeg, at first with the City operating a jackhammer. He then moved to a different career in Transcona with the CN Rail as a Crane Operator on the tracks. Growing up and throughout his life Alex took great care of items he owned. One example was his work boots... you could wear them to a dance! They were always polished and never showed their age.
He met, then married his life long partner Jean Shwaykosky on June 30,1956. Our parents resided in various areas in Winnipeg, eventually purchasing their home on Waugh Road in East St. Paul. During the working years in Transcona Alex commuted with neighbors Frank Burtney and Sam Lazar.
Dad was one of the original volunteer firefighters for the Town of Birds Hill and surrounding community. Following his retirement from the CNR in Transcona, mom and dad travelled extensively, whether visiting relatives, friends or just exploring Canada and the US. Stops included Texas, Hawaii, California, and both coasts across Canada.
Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday November 01 at Klassen Funeral Home with reception to follow. Interment will then take place at Green Acres Cemetery at 3:00pm.
Special thanks to the staff at Middlechurch Home in Winnipeg.
