It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Alan, beloved uncle, at the St. Boniface General Hospital on Monday, December 1, 2014.
Alan is survived by many nieces and nephews: Michael, Candice, Sandra, Ron, Jean, Garry, Carol, Donna, Susan, Lori, Gordon and Linda. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Nettie in 2009; brothers John, Harvey, Edward and sisters Margaret and Mabel.
Alan grew up in Elmwood, attending St. John’s High School and in 1949 graduated from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Engineering. In 1955 Alan married Nettie, and together they enjoyed 54 happy years. Alan spent his early career working for the family farm machinery business, Malmgren Mfg., later Allied Farm Equipment.
Throughout his life, Alan was an active person. He was an excellent swimmer, rarely missing his daily swim at the Y. Alan and Nettie were members of the Rossmere Golf Club, and both enjoyed cross-country skiing. In the early years they travelled the world, but especially loved their winters in Hawaii.
Alan was a wonderful uncle, with genuine interest in the lives of his nephews and nieces. He formed many friendships in his neighbourhood in Tuxedo and at his last residence, the Winnipeg Canoe Club.
To honour Alan’s life, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 11 at 10:00 am at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9 or to a charity of your choice.
