Dorothy-Jean (“DJ”) Henderson (nee Campbell) passed away, peacefully, on July 15, 2018 in Windsor, Ontario. DJ was born to Donald Blair Campbell and Verna Campbell on Oct. 4, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. Shortly thereafter, she moved to her hometown of Toronto, Ontario. DJ graduated with a degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto. After working in Kingston, Ontario, she relocated with her beloved husband (the late Dr. Gordon Henderson) to Detroit to start their family and, a few years later, moved to Windsor, where she has lived for the past 60 years.
DJ loved to travel with her husband and family, had interests in history and fine arts, and was a voracious reader. DJ was a long-time member of The Questers and was a volunteer for many years at the Art Gallery of Windsor. DJ is survived by her children: Richard (Ilka Normile), Lynne (the late Edward Swierenga), David (Grace), and Scott (Margaret); as well as her grandchildren: Leath Swierenga, Nell Henderson, Elizabeth Henderson, and Emily Henderson; and great-grandchildren: Harper, Quinn, and Delaney Swierenga.
Her family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Windsor Regional Hospital (Metropolitan and Downtown campuses) for their care over the past several weeks. A celebration of her life is being planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Art Gallery of Windsor, the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society, the Windsor Regional Hospital, or a charity of your choice are greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre 1969 Wyandotte St. E. Windsor (519-252-5711).
