It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of our father on July 2nd at the age of 92. He died peacefully and entered God’s kingdom to be reunited with his loving wife of 60 years, Kitty. Cherished father of Erik & Sandy White, Glen & Heather White, Kirk & Sue White, Lyn & Andy Robinet, Carol White & Dave DeRoche and Carl White & Eileen Levenick. Predeceased by his brother Alan. Bruce loved his family and was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was also a special friend to the family of Michael and Jane Watatu in Kenya.
Sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Amica, who treated Bruce with kindness and respect during his time with them, always making him feel special. The family also wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Shukla and staff at the Hawthorne Medical Clinic. Your ongoing support and caring in planning for his health needs will never be forgotten.
Bruce's life covered a century of change and his stories reflected a life well lived. He grew up during the depression and learned early how to make and stretch a dollar. He served in the navy during WWII, mine sweeping in Halifax harbour and aiding in the safe passage of convoys across the Atlantic. After the war he graduated with a medical degree from University of Western Ontario and practiced family medicine for over 30 years before finishing off his career at Metropolitan Hospital as an anesthetist. Upon retirement, Bruce spent two years in Kenya as a medical missionary. In addition to his medical practice, Bruce demonstrated a passion for education and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of students in Kenya. He continued over many years to support overseas educational initiatives. He was also involved with St. Clair College and believed strongly in supporting students, so they could in turn support others. Bruce enjoyed reading and never stopped trying to learn something new. He was an avid cyclist and an advocate for increasing bike trails and road safety. Bruce was a member of the Fiesta Duplicate Bridge Club and enjoyed both the game and the time spent with friends. He loved and respected the land and took great pride in his farm, his produce, his gardens and the thousands of trees he planted, trimmed and nurtured to grow tall and straight. He had a strong faith and was an active member of the United Church community. He leaves behind many who have benefitted from his generosity and efforts and will be dearly missed.
Memorial Visitation will be held Sunday, July 10th from 2-5 pm at the Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre, 1969 Wyandotte St. E. A private family funeral service and burial will be held on Monday, July 11th. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
