Reverend William J. “Bill” Beshears, age 83, of Winder GA, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2013, exactly 14 months to the day after his precious wife, Gracie, went to be with the Lord. Bill served in the United States Army and spent many years as a minister in Ohio and Missouri. From 1971 to 1977 he served as a minister to Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA. He was then Chaplain for the Federal Correction Institute (FCI) Prison Ministry in Memphis, TN from 1977 to 1982. From 1982 to 1989 Bill was the Minister of Education at the First Baptist Church of Winder, where he was a member until his passing. He also ministered in a Phoenix, AZ church from 1990 to 1991. Bill retired from Crossroads Baptist Church in Carnesville, GA where he was a minister from 1991 to 1993. He helped to start Project Adam in Winder and served as Co-Chairman. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Lee Hall Beshears; and both of his parents, Charlie and Mary Alice Griffie Beshears. Survivors include his son, John (Marsha) Beshears of Winder; two daughters, Jan (David) Hurd of Bullhead City, AZ and Jill (Reverend Charles) Fant of Anderson, SC; a brother, Jemison Beshears of San Francisco, CA; a sister, Barbara Duval of Winder; six grandchildren, Dr. Chas Fant, Jessica McCoy, Taylor Hurd, Bethany Moore, Zack Beshears, and Kayla Beshears; and two great-grandchildren, Collin and Elle McCoy. The family will receive friends from 4-8:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Winder, on Friday, September 6, 2013. The funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Winder at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 with Reverend John Talley officiating. The burial will take place at Lybrand Cemetery, SC, at 5:00 p.m. on the day of the service.
