Born in Buford, he was the son of Dorsey and Louise Thrash Hutchins of Winder. Mr. Hutchins graduated from Winder-Barrow High School, the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s of science degree in animal husbandry. He received the American Farmers degree from the FFA, was on the University of Georgia livestock judging team and was the national Pork Producer of the Year during the ‘80s. He also served in every local office with the Georgia Farm Bureau and was currently the 4th District Director, a position he held for the past six years. He helped organize and was very active with the Barrow County Cattleman’s Association. He had also served on the Barrow County Board of Commissioners and was a member of Midway United Methodist Church. He was a father figure to his nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Survivors include nephews and nieces-in-law, Joey and Lee Hutchins and Jason and Sara Hutchins; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jackson, Will, Emily and Blake Hutchins; brothers and sister-in-law, Dorsey Hutchins, Jr., and Joe and Cindy Hutchins, all of Winder.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 14, at Midway United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Moore and Robert Hoffmann officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Midway United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 719, Auburn, GA 30011.
