Robert William Ridgeway, 79, of Lawrenceville, GA, entered eternal peace at his home peacefully on July 12th, 2023. Robert was born in Atlanta, GA, on August 12th, 1943, at Crawford Long Hospital. He was the third son of Hubert and Grace Ridgeway of Winder. He graduated from Winder Barrow High School in 1961, completed two years of study at Young Harris College, and earned his Bachelor of Science from Georgia State in 1967. He was married to Sue Anne Sell on February 21st, 1965, in Winder, GA. They were married for 58 years and had two sons, Alan and Brian. Robert had a successful career in insurance, construction sales, home building, and land development as owner of Cottonwood Builders until he retired in 2008. Robert was active in the community as part of the youth sports at Mountain Park Athletic Association and was involved with the Lilburn Youth Basketball for many years. He also served as the first Commissioner in Lilburn for the Basketball Association. After retirement, he and Sue enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer, and he also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and Hawks as well as his beloved Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He loved spending time with his five granddaughters and three great granddaughters.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Grace Ridgeway and brother Marvin Ridgeway. He is survived by his wife Sue Anne (Sell) Ridgeway; children: Alan (Sue) Ridgeway and Brian (Wendy) Ridgeway. He is also survived by his brothers: Royce Ridgeway and Ronald (Ann) Ridgeway. He was blessed with five granddaughters: Amber (Justin) Goolsby, Brandy (Nick) Littlejohn, and Sydney, Gwendolyn and Josephine Ridgeway; and three great granddaughters: Lainey, Remi, and Reagan.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday August 12th, 2023, at Smith Memory Chapel in Winder at 1pm and will receive friends from noon until 1 pm prior to the Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (https://www.lls.org/). Our deepest gratitude to the Home Hospice Accent Care in Atlanta, GA for the wonderful care they provided Robert in his final days.
