Heavenly Father we thank you for the beautiful life and love of a Wonderful Woman
Born on May 10, 1928, to Minda Gaines and Oscar Browner, Sr., in Elberton, GA, Reather accepted Christ at an early age and genuinely believed and lived by the word of God. In the 1950s she relocated to Atlanta, GA surrounded by a host of family and friends. She served as a devoted member of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church. Reather was a hard worker, from a nurse's aide at Piedmont, Ms Helen’s Cafe in the old Herndon Homes, the door at Rookies Lounge, front office at the laundry on Kennedy Street, to head custodial worker through many contracts with the federal government. She retired as a Federal Employee in 2009 and then relocated to Winder, GA. In Winder, she became an active member of Barrow County Senior Center. She loved the Senior Center and was in attendance every chance she got regardless of her health. She moved her church membership to Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Lilburn, GA.
Reather had a gift of giving – would give you the shirt off her back with no questions asked. She always said “it is best to give than to receive. And when you give make sure it’s from the heart so there are no regrets". She kept a bag that contained gifts at all times. When you saw her, she had a camera in her hand capturing so many memories, she loved pictures.
She loved her family, where she actively participated in family reunions until her health declined. She was so happy to attend the 2023 reunion where she was able to fellowship with a host of cousins. She loved her trips to the casinos where she met a host of friends that became family. She loved to travel but was not getting on an airplane.
She was preceded in death by siblings: Oscar Browner, Jr., Lenora B. Harris, Dr. John Browner, Minnie Alma Sims, and Arthurlene Johnson; and sister-in-law Shirley Browner.
Her precious memories will be cherished by her sibling: Elenora Browner Crichlow of Chicago, IL; her god daughter, Candra Williams (Kendrick) of Winder, GA; god son, Christopher (Sophia) Whitehead of Fairburn, GA; her dollbaby – Janaria of Winder, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends.
A visitation for Reather will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, Georgia. A Celebration of Life will occur Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 9:00 AM at William Gayleano Murray & Son Funeral Home, 923 McDaniel Street SW, Atlanta. She will be buried at South View Cemetery, 1990 Jonesboro Rd SE, Atlanta.
