Nelda Bennett Brooksher

Nelda Bennett Brooksher, 90 of Winder, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023. She was a lifetime resident of Winder. Nelda was a 1949 graduate of Winder-Barrow High School and received her secretarial certificate from Athens Business College. She was the clerk of Commissioners for Barrow County for 23 years, serving under six different chairs before her retirement. Nelda was a faithful member of New Pentecost United Methodist Church. She was a loving grandmother who loved playing cards with her friends and was well known for her cube steak, biscuits and gravy.

Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Irene Maynard Bennett; her husband, Hillie Brooksher; a son, Chuck Brooksher; and a sister, Jane Hunter. She is survived by her daughter, Anita Hayes (Keith) of Jefferson; her son, Andy Brooksher (Resa) of Winder; and three grandchildren: Hunt Hayes, Drew Brooksher, and Charlie Brooksher.

Funeral Services will be held at 2PM Sunday, May 7, 2023 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, GA with Dr. James Mooneyhan officiating. The family will receive friends from 12PM until 2PM at the funeral home the day of the service. Interment will follow services in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
