Michael “Mike” Lewis Barton, age 73 of Winder, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019. He was a native of Rome, Ga. Mike graduated from West Rome High School and earned his Bachelors of Science Degree from Shorter University on a baseball scholarship. He retired as a salesman for Mead Manufacturing. Mike loved baseball and played semi-pro ball after college and spent a lifetime coaching and mentoring youth in little league baseball. He loved people and he never met a stranger. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Elizabeth Delashmitt Barton. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Williams Barton of Winder; Three sons, Michael and Matthew Barton of Lawrenceville and Hunter Barton of Winder; a sister, Beth Barton of Rome; four grandchildren, Taylor, Chandler and Gage Barton and Lilly Hougland and a niece and nephew, Chris Mooney and Tami Wilcox. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date in Rome.
