Melford "Butterbean" Phillips, 83, of Winder died Thursday, February 23, 2012.
Born in Hoschton to the late Frank and Susie Garrett Phillips. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He retired from General Motors and was a member of United Auto Workers. Including his parents; his wife, Cennie Teal Phillips; sons, Donald and Jeff Phillips; and great-grandson, Tucker Autry preceded him in death.
Survivors include: his son, Darryl (Patricia) Phillips of Winder; daughter, Carol Warlick of Winder; brothers, Sam Phillips of Jefferson, Jimmy Phillips of Winder; sisters, Geneva Shannon of Jefferson, Edith Gaillard of Jefferson, and Brenda Lott of Braselton; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 25, 2012 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2012 in Smith Memory Chapel with Rev. Joe Shadburn and Rev. Kevin Pirkle officiating. Interment will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
