Julian Oscar Waters, age 90 of Winder, GA, passed away on January 25, 2024. He was a 1950 graduate of Braselton High School and went on to earn both a Bachelor and Master Degree in Education from the University of Georgia. Julian was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force having been a Meteorologist in both the Aleutian Islands and Fairbanks, AK. Julian served the children of Gwinnett County Schools as a Teacher and Principal at Suwanee Elementary School and later as Transportation Director where he was from 1967 until retiring in 1988. He was a member of Winder First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for over 50 years.
Julian was predeceased by his brothers; Wade Waters, Edwin Waters, and Turner Waters; and sisters: Elizabeth Little, Connell Reed, Henrietta Bennett, and Jenni Mae Martin. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Loretta Sikes Waters. He is also survived by his children: Paul T. (Donna) Waters of Winder, Philip J. (Kristen) Waters of Auburn, and Julia Ann (Lee) Stuart of Canton; grandchildren: Jonathan (Ansley) Waters, Anna (Brad) Newton, David (Neeraja) Waters, Drew (Katie) Welch, Brianne Welch, Noah Stuart, Ava Stuart, Eli Waters, and Nathan Waters; and two great grandchildren: John Luke Waters and Blakelee Waters.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, GA, on Friday evening, February 2, 2024 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be in Smith Memory Chapel on Saturday, February 3 at 10:00 am with Rev. Chad Mantooth and Irby Stanley officiating. There will be a Graveside Service at Gwinnett Memorial Park, 925 US Hwy 29 South, Lawrenceville on Saturday, February 3 at 1:45 pm. Donations in memory of Julian Waters may be made to Winder First Baptist Church Greater Vision Fund.
