Her sudden passing was unexpected and ultimately connected to heart complications.
She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Ashley, her first daughter, Megan Elizabeth, and brother, Rod Tillotson.
Those left to honor and cherish her memories are her husband, Jayson Miller, two daughters, Lauren and Alexandra (Allie), grandson, Landon; her parents, Roy Tillotson and Thelma Cooler Tillotson and brothers, Rhett and Ashley Tillotson.
Janie Ashley was a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, and friend. She always made the effort to see the good in people — even when it proved hard to find.
She loved watching sunsets at Sanibel Island, the smell of freshly bloomed magnolias, animals of all kind, laughing at bad reality TV shows (think: any of the Real Housewives) cactus blossom candles, and most importantly (to her) — she loved her two girls, Lauren and Allie.
Even as a little girl, she would say, “When I grow up, I just want to be a mom” — and that she did. She loved and cherished her girls with a depth and unconditional love that some are never fortunate to find. Her life’s joy was to guide and teach Lauren and Allie, and then as they got older, her joy was to watch and cheerlead their accomplishments from the sidelines. Her girls would always say, “God gave us one of his favorite angels.” Janie made it a point that her girls always knew just how much she loved them.
And when Allie blessed her with her first grandson, Landon, she poured the same energy, love and devotion into him. Landon will always remember that “Mimi’s love is the best love.”
Her kindheartedness didn’t stop at her girls, though. Every stray that wandered down the road, ended up as the newest pet with a collar — she could never turn away the underdog (or as it sometimes would be, the undercat). She would stop traffic on the highway for turtles and take the long way home to put food out at the local gas station for the strays. She never met a stranger and always made an effort to leave people better than she found them, because, as she would always say, “God doesn’t like ugly.”
She was intelligent, strong-willed, resilient, witty, creative, beautiful, loving, funny, but above all — she was genuine, kind, and true. Something that seems harder to find then it should be, yet somehow she still made it seem effortless.
Her kindness and memory will live in the hearts of many forever. Per her final wishes, no public services will be held and instead a private service with intimate family members will be held.
