Harvey "Gene" Eugene Watkins

Harvey Eugene Watkins, 81 of Demorest, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023. He was a native of Hoschton and a 31-year resident of Statham. Gene was a member of the Demorest Church of God. He retired as an electrician and truck driver for Wellington Leisure Products. Gene loved fishing, carpentry and working on his tractor. He was a talented musician and guitarist and a former member and bass player for The Anointed Children.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Mary Michael Watkins and a sister, Melba McMillian. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Savage Watkins of Demorest; his daughter, Abby Walker (Joe) of Lavonia; his sister, Robbie Appling of Lexington; his grandson, Nathaniel Walker of Lavonia and multiple nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Gene will be held Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Smith Funeral Home, Winder, Georgia, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.

He will be laid to rest in Barrow Memorial Gardens, Winder, Georgia.
