David Hattox Gilbert, 76, of Hoschton, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024. He was born in Rome, Georgia and spent his formative years in Carrollton, Georgia. He put himself through college and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from West Georgia College, now the University of West Georgia. His work took their family to homes in Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina, and ultimately back to Georgia. He retired from a successful leadership role with Golden State Foods. David was blessed to be a member of the very loving, Christ filled, Bethlehem Church - 211 Campus. He loved traveling, time with friends, gardening, and reading. He loved all things nature. He and wife Susan often declared that they were certified Nature Nuts! He was a super Braves fan! Most of all, David loved his family with a constant, unending love.
David is survived by the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Susan Camp Gilbert of Hoschton; a daughter, Darcy Gilbert (Dan Rowe) of Chicago; a son, Michael Gilbert (Mary Petrella) of Lawrenceville; a beloved granddaughter, Allison Gilbert; sister-in-law, Julie Camp Kiefer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Hazel Gilbert and a brother, Jerry Gilbert.
David’s family would like to thank the West Jackson Emergency personnel, the caring professionals at Northeast Georgia Medical Center both in Braselton and Gainesville, the team at Georgia Heart Institute, the remarkable staff in the CCU in Gainesville and treasured friends who were such a source of strength for the family.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at 1PM Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Bethlehem Church’s 211 Campus with Pastor Dustin Mattox officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
