Mr. Horne was a native of Alabama, and was a distinguished teacher and athletic coach in this community where he impacted many lives that he came into contact with. He was also a member of the Winder First United Methodist Church. Coach Horne held many distinctions throughout his life which will remain as his lasting legacy. These accomplishments include:
• 2007: He was inducted into the Georgia Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame.
• 1982: He was chosen as the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association North All Star Head Coach.
• 1961-1962: At Winder Barrow High School he won the baseball region championship
• 1968: At Roswell High School he won the baseball region championship.
• 1969: At Roswell High School he led the team to state runner up in baseball.
• 1980: At Winder-Barrow High School he led the team to state runner up in baseball.
• 1970-1971: He was the baseball state champion for Roswell High School.
• 1971-1973: He was the football region champion for Roswell High School.
• 1968 and 1971: He was the football region champion for Roswell High School.
• 1968, 1970, and 1971: He received the honor of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s football region coach of the year.
• 1968, 1969, 1970, and 1971: He received the honor of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s baseball region coach of the year.
• 1968, 1970, and 1971: He received the honor of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s baseball and football state coach of the year.
• 1968 and 1970: He was the Atlanta Touch Down Club state coach of the year.
Mr. Horne is preceded in death by his parents; James Arch Horne and Louilla Hornsby Horne; brother, Ray Horne; and sisters, Peggy Horne McHargue, Nell Horne Smith, Francis Horne Cooper, and Ginger Horne McManus.
Mr. Horne is survived by his loving wife; Mrs. Sheridan “Sheri” Sanders Horne; son, Chad (Kea) Horne; daughter, Shannon (Ted) Horne Wilson; brother, James “Bubba” Horne; sister, Margaret Horne Jones; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren also survive.
The Funeral Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Charlie Horne will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 2:30 PM in the Winder First United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Sineath officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Winder. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
The family has respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made in memory of Mr. Horne to the Alzheimer’s Association or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
