Caroline was born June 24, 1938 in Bluefield WV, and passed on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 in her home, surrounded by her family, in Hoschton GA.
Caroline grew up in the coal fields of Virginia and West Virginia. She was a daddy’s girl from the beginning. She attended early school in Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky. During high school in Bluefield she participated in the Honors program taking classes at VA Intermont College. She graduated from Beaver High School in Bluefield in 1956 where she met Carel. She attended college at the University of South Carolina and was active in Campus Radio Broadcasting and the ZTA Sorority.
Caroline has been married to Carel Thompson Jr since January 25, 1957 (an unheard of 65.9 years). Their love and dedication to each other was a great example. They have raised 2 children, Deborah (married to Ray) and Carter (married to Sharon) and have 3 grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan and Jordan and one great-grandchild, Liam. Caroline was a wonderful grandmother and would listen and ask questions about interests of her grandchildren for hours.
She has lived in 18 towns during her traveled life including WV, VA, NC, SC, GA and MS. Caroline maintained relationships along her travels and was a dear friend to so many. She loved to exercise, read, and spend time with friends and family. She never met a stranger.
Caroline worked for several greeting card companies and has always been an active member in all of her many churches, serving many communities. For the past 15 years she has been very active in the Winder Noon Lions Club, in Winder Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winder United Methodist Church (in honor of the W.Y. Smith Sunday School Class) or to the Winder Noon Lions Club.
