Betty Jo Martin

Betty Jo Martin, 79, of Statham passed away Monday, March 6, 2023. Betty Jo was born October 2, 1943 in Swain County, NC to the late Oscar and Martha “Oma” Howard. She grew up in North Carolina and spent most her adult life living in Georgia. Betty was a God fearing woman who loved reading her Bible. She always loved to joke and her family will remember her as being sneaky, cute, and prim and proper. Betty enjoyed watching TV shows, specifically The Bachelor and old Westerns. She also loved crossword puzzles, nutty buddies, peppermints, collecting miniature antiques, and cooking with her sister Lucy. Betty loved her husband and loved being surrounded by family and friends and she always made everyone feel welcome. Her family will always remember her strong will and her love of pets, especially her Chihuahua, Sye Martin.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Benson “PawPaw” Martin; son, Benny Martin; daughter Beverly Martin; and a host of siblings.

Betty is survived by her daughter Tammy Jo Martin and son Tony (Marquitta) Martin; grandchildren: Maudiyah Martin, MaKaylah Martin, Shane Smith, Siara Shellnut, Justin Ford, Amanda Ford, Misty Cox, Macy Martin and Shae Martin; brother, Wayne Howard; and sisters: Debbie Howard, Ruby Howard, and Gail Howard.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, GA, on Friday, March 10, 2023 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. There will be a graveside funeral service immediately following the visitation at 1:00 pm at Barrow Memorial Gardens, 793 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, GA. Pastor Johnny Wright will officiate.
