Alice Newman (ne: Burns) was born on June 20, 1932 in Henderson, KY. The Burns family relocated across the Ohio River to Evansville, IN when she was nine years old. Alice was a member of Howell United Methodist Church and graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in 1948. She was a well-educated woman who received a Bachelor's Degree in speech therapy and audiology, then married Delbert Newman in 1955. She later received a Master's Degree and was a dedicated and passionate speech and hearing therapist with North Gibson School Corp. and, later, Clay County School Corp.
Alice considered all children to be precious gifts from God and worked diligently to ensure they had a good education and spoke correct English in order to excel in life. She also cherished her many wonderful friendships she formed over the years and always extended her kindness in a deep and positive way. She was passionate about the rights for women and children, was an avid reader and a devoted spiritual person.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband Delbert Rhea Newman, parents Moreland Burns and Marion (Wimp) Burns, and brother Ed Burns (Jane).
Alice is survived by: daughters Lisa Newman of The Villages, FL and Cara Fandel (Vince) of Westcliffe, CO; sister-in-law Wilma Lee of Evansville, IN; nephews David Whitledge of Evansville, IN, Jim Burns of Elk Grove Village, IL and Larry Small (Rayette) of Evansville, IN; nieces Susan Oldham (Gene) of Round Lake, IL, Debbie Seib (Mike) of Mooresville, IN, Teresa Whitledge of Evansville, IN, Robbyn Ferguson (Keith) of Evansville, IN, and Karen Jo Duncan of Evansville, IN; along with several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
