Margaret Wood Cole, passed away March 25, 2023, at Cone Health/Alamance Regional Hospital in Burlington, NC, after a brief illness. She was born on July 19, 1940, in Blowing Rock, NC, to parents Elmer Wood and Pearl Ford Wood. The oldest of four children, she grew up with her brother Cecil and sisters Margery and Elma. She grew up in the Blowing Rock and Boone area, and graduated from Appalachian High School. After graduation she moved to Winston-Salem, NC, where she attended and graduated from NC Baptist Hospital School of Radiology Technology. Her career as an X-ray Technologist spanned forty years and during her first marriage, she practiced in Kwajalein Island of the Marshall Islands and in Winston-Salem, NC. After marrying her second husband Robert E. Cole in 1979, she was blessed with the addition of Bob’s two daughters-Marie and Martha. The family moved shortly thereafter to Wilson, NC. In Wilson, she worked at Wilson Memorial Hospital and then in private practice for Dr. Michael Glover. After her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her husband Bob at various golf courses, tole painting and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wilson, NC, where she served as a Deacon. Margaret was very active in her church, serving in different areas of ministries which include the Shut-in Ministry, Bereavement Ministry, Senior Adult Ministry/Bible Study, going on mission trips and assisting the Youth Ministry by preparing meals for them on their mission trips, retreats and getaways.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents Elmer and Pearl Wood, brother Cecil Wood and her husband Bob Cole. She is survived by a son Charley Carriker (wife Charlene), daughter Marie Cole and daughter Martha Pritcher (husband Thomas). While proud of her children, she was very proud of her grandchildren Caitlyn Pollard (husband Justin), Caeden Carriker, Megan Pritcher and Abbey Pritcher. Her face would light up when her great-granddaughter, Luthian Pollard would come and visit. She is also survived by her sisters Margery Pitts and Elma Wood and sister-in-law Nancy Wood. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Wilson sanctuary, with visitation occurring from 10 am-10:45 am, and the service beginning at 11am. Burial will occur afterward at Pinetops Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
The family appreciates all the love and care bestowed upon Margaret by the staff during her stay at The Oaks of Burlington and all the love shown to her by the First Baptist Church family over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Wilson missions.
