LARRY RAY SPEIGHT Larry Ray Speight, 80, beloved husband of 60 years of Elizabeth Ann Walston Speight, of Elm City, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wilson County, May 1, 1935, a son of the late J.C. and Martha Mildred Speight, he worked in the floor covering business until his retirement. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. Larry was known for his great, smart aleck sense of humor and mischievous smile. He had a way of pausing his words that would keep you guessing what was coming next. He had a deep love of animals and children. Besides his wife Elizabeth Ann, he is survived by his daughters, Barbara Speight Eason and her husband Rusty, and Beverly Webb (Kevin Heath), all of Elm City; his son Ronnie Speight and his wife Diane of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Jenna Speight Adams (Landon) , Josh Webb, Courtney Speight, and Chelsea Ann Frazier (Aaron Spain); his sister, Frances Speight Phillips and her husband John of Charlotte; his brother Mark Speight of Wilson, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Ray Speight, and his sisters Bernice Baker and Flossie Lucas and his brothers Herman, Earl, Issac, and Spurgeon Speight. His family will receive relatives and friends at the Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home, 2704 Nash St., Wilson, Friday, October 23 rd from 7 to 9 p.m. Graveside Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 24 th at 10 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Park.
